Synergism:        Collaboration or Cooperation

UNLOCKED · DOOR

This project, located in west part Ann Arbor, Michigan, unlocks a new way of living – together, in harmony, and with affordability and environmental responsibility at the forefront. Conventional housing often traps individuals in a cycle of managing fixed expenses like food, travel, and laundry, on top of rent. With shared spaces and social cooperation, This project allows residents to focus on their talents and passions.

Imagine a teacher freed from cooking and a cook relieved of laundry duties – all residing within their zone of comfort. Life is full of challenges; This project aspires to make universal comfort a reality.

The project recognizes that even in a highly educated and affluent community like Ann Arbor, where the median annual salary is $81,833 and 75% hold a bachelor's degree or higher, the high cost of housing can be a significant burden. By promoting shared spaces and resources, this project seeks to alleviate the individual burdens of daily life, allowing residents to focus on their unique talents and passions. The design incorporates a layered approach, with private living spaces seamlessly integrated with common areas and amenities. This encourages social interaction and cooperation among residents, reviving the historical spirit of community living.

The project acknowledges that humans are inherently social creatures, and shared spaces were once the norm, fostering intergenerational connections and cooperation among neighbors

As stated in Soft City 'True urban quality comes from accommodating density and diversity of building types and uses in the same place'. It aims to foster a sense of community, collaboration, and co-existence in a contemporary setting while addressing the issue of housing affordability and environmental responsibility.
